Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, April 21: At 4:44 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in Scranton. At 2:37 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Monday, April 20: At 12:30 am the Greene County sheriff’s office and the DCI conducted a search warrant on a vehicle. At 4:23 pm Jared Bielenberg, 36, of Coon Rapids was booked into the jail on a charge of possession of a controlled substance*. At 8:02 pm a deputy arrested Brian Weltzin, 29, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for a probation violation*. He was later booked into the jail for three violations of probation*.

Sunday, April 19: At 11 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 900 block of Alpine Ave in Kendrick Township. At 2:13 pm the sheriff, deputies, Grand Junction Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to an assault in the 500 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 9:02 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in the 2300 block of Sherwood Ave in Franklin Township. At 9:47 pm the sheriff’s office, Perry police department, and the DCI conducted a search warrant in the 2800 block of 1st Ave in Perry. Suspected controlled substances and firearms were seized.

Saturday, April 18: At 12:05 am a deputy assisted the Carroll County sheriff’s office with a pursuit that started in Carroll County. The pursuit ended near 110th St and B Ave in Cedar Township in Greene County. The suspect was a juvenile and was placed into custody by the Carroll County sheriff’s office and the Calhoun County sheriff’s office. At 9:32 pm a deputy investigated a no contact order violation in Scranton.

Friday, April 17: At 10:07 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 11 am Malchi Romeo Montes De Oca, 23, of Webster City was booked into the jail for a probation violation and domestic abuse assault*.  At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 500 block of State St in Scranton.

Thursday, April 16: At 6:40 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway in the 1100 block of Eaton Ave north of Scranton. At 10:38 am a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction. At 11:15 am a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1900 block of A Ave in Willow Township. At 7:58 pm a deputy investigated a fireworks complaint in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 15: At 3:43 pm Anthony Owens, 45, of Jamaica was booked into the jail on charges of burglary- third degree, criminal mischief- second degree, theft- second degree, attempted burglary- third degree, and theft- fourth degree*. At 4:27 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious animal in Grand Junction. At 6:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1400 block of Jordan Ave in Jackson Township.  At 8:37 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in Scranton.

Tuesday, April 14: At 2:37 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment complaint in Scranton. At 3:24 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an assault in progress in the 300 block of Edgewood Ave. Dakota Sheer, 34, of Rippey was arrested on charges of burglary- first degree, attempted murder, harassment- first degree, assault while participating in a felony, interference with official acts, and child endangerment*.  She was later booked into the jail on the charges.

Monday, April 13: At 12:03 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Churdan. At 8:37 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in Rippey. At 4:35 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of an aggressive rooster in Grand Junction. At 9:36 pm a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on Main St near Chicago St in Scranton. Shaun Warnke of Scranton lost control of a 2015 Chevrolet Trax and struck a tree. The vehicle was totaled in the accident. Warnke fled the scene and was not located. Charges are pending.

Saturday, April 11: At 1:25 pm a deputy, Iowa State Patrol, Churdan Rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident on N Ave near 140th St. The Iowa State Patrol investigated the accident. At 1:51 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Friday, April 10: At 4:35 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St Grand Junction. Alex Treft was arrested for harassment and disorderly conduct*. Dennis Trizila and Keith Kokenge were also arrested for disorderly conduct*. All three were later booked into the jail on the charges. At 7:38 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on P Ave near 255th St in Grant Township. At 10:20 pm a deputy investigated a noise complaint in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. Alex Treft was arrested for disorderly conduct, careless driving, and a defective muffler*.

Thursday, April 9: At 2:24 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 5:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of domestic assault in the 200 block of Green St in Paton. Fredrick Thorpe, 66, of Paton was arrested on a charge of domestic abuse assault*. He was later booked into the jail on the charge. At 11:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of assault in the 700 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction. Madison Meyers, 22, of Grand Junction was arrested on a charge of assault*. She was later booked into the county jail on the charge.

Wednesday, April 8: At 3:58 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction. At 5:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, April 7: At 5:52 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near B Ave west of Scranton. Joseph Hockenberry of Grand Junction struck a deer with a 2008 Ford Focus. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $5,000. At 1:01 pm the sheriff found a manhole cover missing on Fitzpatrick St near Jay St in Churdan. At 10:15 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson. At 11:59 pm Scott Slinger, 53, of Bayard was booked into the jail for failure to appear*.

Monday, April 6: At 6:34 am a deputy removed an animal from the roadway on 230th St near S. 8th St in Grand Junction. At 1:31 pm Tanya Helmrichs, 46, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail on charges of criminal mischief- second degree, theft- second degree, burglary- third degree, and attempted burglary- third degree*. At 6:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 5: At 2:51 pm a deputy investigated a report of gunshots near Jay and Butler Sts in Churdan. The gunshots were found to be coming from outside of town and were legal.  At 7:26 pm a deputy picked up a found wallet in the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, April 4: Routine activity reported.

Friday, April 3: At 12:50 pm the sheriff, deputies, Greene County Ambulance, and Jefferson Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident on 260th St and K Ave in Jackson Township. Quenton Spack of Jefferson was southbound on K Ave driving a 2019 Chevrolet medium duty truck. Jayden Rice of Eldora was westbound on 260th St driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. Rice failed to yield and the two vehicles collided and entered the southwest ditch, with the truck partially rolled on top of the car. Both drivers were taken to the Greene County Medical Center with suspected injuries. Rice was cited for failure to yield the right of way. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. At 1:33 pm Jonathan Funcke, 47, of Jefferson was booked into the jail on a charge of theft- fifth degree*. At 3:57 pm a deputy investigated drug offenses in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, April 2: At 3:41 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in Grand Junction. At 11:44 pm Scott Slinger, 53, of Bayard was booked into the jail for failure to appear*.

Wednesday, April 1: At 9:23 am Seth Blumberg, 27, of Churdan was booked into the jail for a probation violation*. At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of S Ave in Dawson Township. At 10:30 am a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office in responding to a vehicle fire on 130th St near B Ave. At 12:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in Grand Junction.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
